Vickie B. Turner

Vickie B Turner holds a M.ED (Post-Secondary Education) and a B.S. (Child and Family Counseling), and has completed coursework in the Harvard Kennedy School of Executive Education.

Vickie has been in Education since 1991 starting as a Kindergarten teacher and advancing to several positions throughout the schoolhouse. She eventually became Headmaster of their K-9 th grade school. She and her husband were able to realize their lifelong dream of owning their own private school and in 2005 embarked upon this journey of entrepreneurship. Vickie worked in the daily operations as Headmaster and Robert as Chancellor. They operated the school until 2014, at which time Vickie ran for and won the office of School Board Member in Dekalb County.

Vickie’s most recent assignment has been serving as Chairman of the Board for the last two years and prior to that, she served as Vice Chair. The Board’s primary responsibility is that of Policy making, Oversight and approval of an annual budget of 1.2 billion as well as the hiring and supervision of the District’s Superintendent.

The District is comprised of over 14.500 employees and has a very diverse student population of approximately 94,000 students representing 165 different languages. The District has the daunting task of providing quality educational opportunities for all of its students, acknowledging that 73% of the student population come from impoverished and underserved areas.

Vickie has accomplished much during her tenure on the Board: She is a proud graduate of Leadership Dekalb (2017); a recipient of the Hidden Figures Award; My Sister’s Keeper Living Legend Award; the National Women Empowerment Women in Ministry Leadership Award, The Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award; Proclamations from Congressman Hank Johnson of the 4 th Congressional District; Ga. State Senator Emanuel Jones; Dekalb County CEO Michael Thurmond; Dekalb Board of Commissioners; Stonecrest Mayor Jazzmin Cobble and Superintendent Dr. Horton and the Dekalb County Board of Education.

Vickie and her husband Robert are the proud parents of three adult children and six precious grandchildren.
