Whether working with densely populated urban schools or smaller, tightly knit communities, our goal is to empower students and enhance educational outcomes.
In our ongoing mission to assist districts in achieving their educational goals, we had the privilege of partnering with the Haines Borough School District. The district welcomed Education Partners to aid in updating their strategic plan. Under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Roy Getchell, recognized as the 2024 Superintendent of the Year and serving as the President of the Alaska Superintendent Association Board, Dr. Getchell embodies excellent leadership, demonstrating a commitment to educational excellence. The district's dedication to excellence in education, community engagement, organizational innovation, and fostering a positive school climate aligns perfectly with our mission, making us eager to collaborate with them.
Situated in the beautiful town of Haines, Alaska, the Haines Borough School District serves as the heart of the community, catering to its approximately 2,000 residents. The district's dedication to providing a rigorous academic curriculum and nurturing an inclusive school culture reflects the principles deeply rooted in the community’s rich heritage and traditions of its vibrant community.
Our collaboration with the Haines Borough School District began with a thorough assessment of the district's current context, including an analysis of existing strategic plans, student achievement data, and community feedback. With this comprehensive understanding, two Education Partners representatives conducted a four-day site visit to engage with district officials, conduct assessments, and provide tailored strategic planning support.
During the visit, our team prioritized collaboration and engaged with key stakeholders across the Haines Borough School District. In addition to meeting with Superintendent Dr. Roy Getchell, we had the opportunity to connect with various district staff members, including Principal Lilly Boron, as well as teachers, board members, and community members. Their invaluable insights and perspectives played a pivotal role in shaping our strategic planning efforts, ensuring that the resulting plan authentically reflects the diverse needs and aspirations of the Haines community.
While our two team members immersed themselves in the beauty and charm of Haines, Alaska, we are grateful for the warm hospitality extended to them by the district and the community at large. The breathtaking natural surroundings provided a serene and inspiring backdrop, as it was a privilege to be invited to their small town of Haines and enjoy the natural beauty. Reflecting on the time our team has spent with the district, we are honored to have worked with a district like Haines Borough School District. Superintendent Dr. Getchell expressed his sentiments, saying, "It has been a great experience so far, and I look forward to making a pathway to excellence through this process."
