Michael Poore

Having recently completed an illustrious 38-year career that spans teaching, coaching, and administration, Michael Poore now serves as a leading voice on educational issues. Poore is a highly sought-after speaker whose advocacy for literacy has been lauded nationally. Named Arkansas Superintendent of the Year in 2021, Poore is celebrated for his many accomplishments in education including community partnerships developed during his tenure. Of particular note, he garnered support for districtwide reading initiatives from Arkansas Rotary Club 99, the Little Rock banking industry, businesses, faith-based organizations, and programs to directly impact literacy. Under his leadership, the Little Rock School District’s annual OneRock OneBook campaign (formerly One District One Book) focused on building strong literacy foundations for elementary students and was recognized nationally in 2018 as a model effort. These efforts to impact literacy were further enhanced in 2022 with the creation of a Little Rock “Think Tank” aimed at increasing strategies to improve reading levels for elementary students.

Poore has also been recognized as a leader in creating a pipeline to connect high school students to local careers and postsecondary education opportunities, specifically helping to secure a Ford NGL designation for the Academies of Central Arkansas model in Pulaski County’s four public school districts. As a veteran educator, Poore dedicated his life's work to students from Colorado to Arkansas. Under his leadership in Little Rock, two elementary schools earned National Blue Ribbon distinctions in 2019 and 2021, respectively.

Poore was named the recipient of Junior Achievement’s inaugural Educator Award in 2020. In 2019, he was recognized with the Lifetime of Service Award by City Year - Little Rock and was named by Arkansas Business Publication as a back-to-back Arkansas 250 honoree in 2018-19. He serves as President of the Board for Economics Arkansas and was also board president in 2014-15. Poore is an active member of the Rotary Club where he is also a distinguished Paul Harris Fellow and has served on the Arkansas Professional State License Standards board. He also serves on the National Heart Association of School Executives Council and is on the local Heart Association board. Poore was the only educator among top national executives named to the Social Shake-Up Show’s Movers & Shakers and Rising Stars 2018 Honoree List.
